GX Projects Driving Hokkaido Forward

Hokkaido’s Initiatives Leading Japan’s GX (Green Transformation)

Hokkaido is advancing GX (Green Transformation), transitioning from a fossil fuel-dependent industrial and social structure to one centered on clean energy by maximizing the use of the region’s unparalleled renewable energy resources. This transformation aims to revitalize Hokkaido’s economy and improve quality of life.

Over the next decade, an estimated 150 trillion yen in public and private GX investments, along with global investments in response, are being drawn to Hokkaido and Sapporo by fostering the concentration of GX-related industries.

The Supply Chain Created by Hokkaido’s GX Projects

Among various projects, eight key GX projects—centered on offshore wind power and hydrogen—are driving the creation of a comprehensive supply chain. This includes research and development of new technologies and businesses, manufacturing of components and ancillary equipment, and maintenance services. These efforts are fostering the accumulation of GX-related industries in Hokkaido.
