[Sapporo City] Sapporo Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Promotion Council

On June 13, 2025, the City of Sapporo, along with private companies and other municipalities, established the Sapporo Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Promotion Council. The first meeting of the fiscal year 2025 was held on July 9. The council was formed to build a hydrogen supply chain and create regional industries in Sapporo and Hokkaido.

For hydrogen derived from Hokkaido’s abundant renewable energy to become a familiar energy source for citizens and businesses, it is necessary to solve various challenges at each stage of the process: production, storage, transport, and use. The council will work with private businesses to tackle these challenges, with the goal of achieving a phased supply of hydrogen to the Sapporo-centered area starting in 2030 and beyond.
